We’re electricians based in Canterbury. You can find out what we’re up to and the kind of services we offer on this blog, or visit our main site for more information on us and what we do.
We have been working on a large installation over in Ottinge and we have just started the Underfloor Heating. Here you can see the first stage of setting out the heating mat, ready to be fixed down and tested.
We are now securing the underfloor heating mat to the floor, ready to carry out the continuity testing; this will ensure the heating mat is undamaged and ready to be covered over in floor screeding. The next stage is the floor tiles are installed, then we will return for our final visit, test the underfloor heating mat once more and verify the results with the previous data; once we have confirmed that the mat is suitable to be connected then it’s time to turn it on and let the customer enjoy lovely warm floor tiles for years to come.
We have been working on a 3 phase supply on a farm in Birchington and this photo shows that now and again we have to turn our hands to all sorts to get the job done!!
How do you choose an electrician from Herne Bay or anywhere for that matter?? It seems that there is a lot of us out there; but how do you know who is going to be right for you?? Well…. We think a good place to start is by matching us to your personality. Sounds a bit random, but bear with me…… You see, we have to not only have all the right qualifications, be registered with an approved body such as Napit, have the right attitude to work, the right equipment etc etc but most importantly, (we feel), is that we make you feel comfortable; after all, we will be working in your home! Myself and Rob always treat people and their homes how we would like to be treated ourselves, this way the experience is a good one and everyone feels the benefit. Take a look at our checkatrade page to see what other people think.
We have been working in Ottinge for a customer who has asked us to wire up the spar bath. We have also just completed a fuse board change and full test on the house as well as new wiring in the new extension and supplying and installing underfloor heating.
Here you can see Rob has made light work of getting the spar bath ready! Now….. what’s next?? Oh yes; time to start on the wiring to the ‘Velux’ windows and the underfloor heating.
Rewire shed and garage ,plus other work Very well done to 3core on there work,very courteous ,and polite, very high standard of work ,100% would use them again,thank you,whitstable:}
We are always very pleased to get positive feed back from our customers; we rely on it to keep us in work. Why not take a look at some of the other things people are saying about us on our ‘Checkatrade’ page.
We were called by a customer in Herne today, saying that the electric shower was not working properly. After a quick inspection, we found this!! A loose connection had almost caused a fire in the loft! You can see from the picture how bad it had got! We have now replaced the switch and repaired the damaged cable.
New external meter box, internal consumer unit and power points. Very pleasant people to deal with who made sure they understood my requirements and provided an estimate in quick time following a comprehensive site inspection. Completed the works on time and in accord with agreed quote to a very satisfactory standard. Would have no hesitation in recommending them.
We were called to a property in Canterbury where the customer had been told that there was no earth present in the kitchen socket. He became concerned when it was pointed out that if there was a problem the metal decorative front plate may become live and he would be un aware until he got a shock from it! He called us in to take a look and after using our inspection camera to avoid too much disruption, we found the problem. We then had to make an inspection hole to see what was going on inside the wall. What we found was that whoever had attempted to make the alteration to the existing electrical system didn’t do the job very well and had left the property with what could well of been a very nasty situation for our customer. The picture shows the wrong type of crimp connector (too large for the earth cable and not crimped with the correct tool, as the cables were loose and came apart when inspected) and what it doesn’t show is that the connections were incorrect and this is how the socket came to have no earth! We have now rectified the situation and all is well.
We have now completed the electric gates for the customer in Herne Bay providing them with both security and convenience.
Merry Christmas to all of our customers! We would like to say a big thank you for choosing us for your electrical and security needs this year and we will be more than happy to help you or your friends in the New Year.
Best wishes
Chris and Rob
(We took the picture whilst we were working in Oxrord Street; London).
3 core came to me on recommendation from a friend who has used their services on several occasions. I was worried as it really was a small job - but a job beyond my capabilities! Rob came and sorted the problem immediately. To his credit - he did nothing to make me feel inadequate (even though most people would probably have been able to sort the problem out themselves!). I will definitely use 3 core again and will definitely recommend them to others.
We pride ourselves on doing a great job every time and here is some more positive feedback to prove just that. Take a look at our checkatrade page or our testimonials, for more….
We are in the middle of partially rewiring a property in Canterbury and Rob has found a few minutes to find a new way of making sure his wrap doesn’t fall apart!!!
Another day in the life of an electrician!! We were invited to the ploughing match in Faversham by one of our best customers. The day was a complete success, the weather was hot and sunny and the event was fantastic! We recommend taking the kids to this one.
We were called to investigate a fault on a running track flood light in Canterbury. When we took a closer look we found this! I think this could well be the problem!
Rob and Chris came at relatively short notice to check my built-in oven that had stopped working. After checking that their was power into the unit they were able to man-handle the offending oven out of its fittings to check the back and were able to immediately tell me that the power input point had burnt out. Whilst not something they could repair, they immediately put me in touch with a company that specialises in replacement parts for ovens and assured me that if I needed their assistance to explain anything that they would be happy to call. Finishing off by replacing the oven in its fitting and tidying up around their work area.
After attending a call from a new customer in Whitstable, to attend to a faulty cooker we were very pleased to receive this feedback. We always strive to provide the best service possible for our customers.
I have used 3core on several occasions, (they were recommended to me from a friend) and I've always been very satisfied with their work. They have carried out new installations for me, but have been equally happy to sort out problems (such as our electricity cutting out for no apparent reason!). I have always found their quotes to be reasonable and transparent. One thing, which is a pet hate of mine, is time keeping, and these guys, if they are ever late, which is rare, take the time to let you know, which for some reason most don't! I'd definitely recommend them.
We were asked by one of our existing customers in canterbury to fix her faulty bathroom lights and she has left this very fine feedback for us.
Fantastic service - polite, quiet and very trustworthy. Offer advice but without the expectation of having the work offered to them. Would thoroughly recommend this company for any job.Unknown
This is a quote from one of our check a trade customers, click the link at the bottom of our main page to see what other people have to say about us.
We recently changed the existing energy hungry down lights for new LED low energy down lights for a customer in Herne Bay.The old installation had 20 x 50 watt bulbs, which needed replacing on a regular basis. These were not only expensive to run but also bulb changing became frustrating too! We have now replaced them with the new technology on the block… LED. They are only 10 watts each and don’t have any bulbs to replace!! What do you think?? Give us a call or drop us an email if you would like to find out more.
We have just recently replaced a fuse board for a new up to date version in Canterbury. A few questions that came up may be useful to you if you are considering the same thing… ‘How long will the electricity be off’? This will depend on the size of the fuse board itself but typically no longer than half a day. (Domestic customers).’What will it involve’? We carry out a series of tests throughout the property which will involve removing some of the accessories to check on the condition of things. (We are always very careful not to disturb any of the decoration and always ensure that no mess is left).’Will I get a certificate to show that this work has been carried out’? Yes of course, we are registered with Napit and all of our work that is required to be certificated under part P of the building regulations also carries a 6 year warranty. We are happy to discuss any further questions related to fuse board changes or any other work you may be considering.
Call us today for a free estimate, with no obligation.
We have been working for a customer in Maidstone, providing outside sockets and a supply to garden office when Rob decides the only way to achieve the best results is to go down under!!
We have just completed a large fire alarm upgrade job for a customer in London and Rob decides to play!!
We were called to a faulty shower in Canterbury and found that the fuse board had almost caught fire!!! The cable that supplied the shower had over heated and burnt out inside the fuse box!! We did a full inspection and test of the house, replaced the faulty components and replaced the fuse board.
Whilst carrying out an inspection and test in Herne Bay we discovered this…. The shed wiring had been installed by a friend of the customer some time ago and had started to cause problems back at the house. If you are in any doubt, this is not a good install and could have proved to be very dangerous as there was no sign of an RCD and the customer was unaware how potentially serious this could of been. If you are unsure of your wiring, have any doubts about its condition or would just like us to put your mind at rest, then give us a call today and we will arrange to come round and give you our professional opinion.
We have just completed a full rewire for a customer in Beltinge Herne Bay. After looking at the existing electrics we gave the customer the news… the system had started to breakdown beyond the satisfactory levels for safety and that the only way forward would be to rewire the entire house. We use some of the latest dust extraction equipment and work tirelessly to ensure the house is still useable for our customers while the work goes ahead. The photo shows Rob just installing the fuse board, ready for the changeover day, where the job will be complete and the customer will have a newly rewired home, all done in a week.
Whilst installing low energy LED down lights for a customer in Maidstone, Rob discovered that it does give off just a little dust!
We have recently had a few jobs where we have been asked to help rectify a fault with an RCD tripping out. I thought it may be useful to give some tips on things to try first; so here goes…. The first thing to do is switch off all the MCB switches (the switches at the fuseboard)and then try switching on the RCD switch (the one with the test button on it). Then if the RCD switch stays on try switching the MCB switches back on one at a time; when you get to the switch that takes the RCD out again, that is the circuit with the fault on it. The next stage is to go to that circuit and (if it’s a power circuit), unplug everything. Now try turning that MCB back on, if the RCD stays on, start plugging things back in until it trips again and there is your problem. This will not always be the case but it does seem to be the most common. We are always available if you need any further assistance of course. Let us know if this helps you or if you would like us to give advice on anything else.
As promised, here is Rob on stage 2 of the electric gates install. We are now pulling in all the cables ready for the ground works and walls to be built. All the controls will be hidden out of sight. Keep watching to see the finished article!!
Can anyone find Rob?? We were called to a pond pump failure in Sittingbourne. The customer was very worried that his prize Koi carp would be in danger due to a fault on a uv filter that keeps the water clean for the fish. This is where Rob comes into his own as he is very good at fault finding, so he was in his element with this one. Shame we couldn’t find him afterwards!!!!!
We are just finishing a lighting project for a very high profile customer in Faversham, when Chris finds some time to flirt!!!!!
Having explained the situation over the phone, they visited the same day at the time stated. Immediately resolved the issue of the reported fault with impedance test. Connected cooker and checked and resolved two other minor faults. Quote given for further work, which they have since carried out to the same high standard. It was rewarding to have a tradesman who was able to set my mind at rest, get on with the work at a fair and reasonable charge, at the price quoted, as unobtrusive as possible with the minimum amount of disruption.

The job:- Install extra sockets and lighting in new workshop.
Here’s Rob on our first day of an installation of electric gates in Broomfield. The installation requires us to hide all cables and accessories for the gates. Keep watching to see how it all goes!!
Here’s a pic of Rob in the barn. We provided an electricity supply, and designed and installed the whole system. It contained a three phase commercial board (for those of you who wanted to know!). The brief from the customer was to be very discreet, not showing any cables or accessories (the switches and sockets). We used hessian sacks which were on site to cover the cables that were visible and we matched some of the cable using black and brown sprays. We also sourced black accessories. The end result was a very satisfied customer who even got us back for a few other jobs.
Excellent work, on budget. Good clean workers, they left the house tidy every evening. Time keeping very good, but most of all two really nice hardworking ‘lads’ who I felt comfortable with. Thanks Chris and Rob.
Well, we do like to keep things tidy!
But if you can’t be bothered to read through all that, why not just give us a call!
… although we do like a cup of tea!
I cannot express our delight in finding this electrical contractor. These two brilliant young men completed this huge job quickly and efficiently and exactly on schedule. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this company. The job they did and the way they carried it out was excellent. Thank you so much.
Thanks Mrs Best!
For a recent project we needed to wear full body protective suits as we were working in a rat infested house. Thankfully not something we usually have to do!
We’re really proud of the great feedback we’ve received on Checkatrade. It’s also good if you want to see all the different qualifications Rob and I have.
I got a reply to my enquiry within half an hour. He visited within 2 days to give an estimate and did most of the job the same afternoon, having to sort out unexpected electrical problems on the way. He finished a week later when the towel rail was available and did an excellent competent job, including re-jigging our extractor fan wiring! I was impressed by how friendly and polite he and his partner were, and willing to do a relatively small job. I would recommend them to anyone.
We were really pleased Mrs Mitchell was so happy with the work we did. If you need anything similar please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
